Deeply DetroitCollected Detroit’s upcoming exhibition, Deeply Detroit, gives visual form to the meaning of global reach and local roots within the Detroit art community. Artists include internationally known Artis Lane, Canadian and long-time Detroiter. She works in bronze and oil and is the sculptor of President Barac and First Lady Michelle Obama’s busts. Hubert Massey who studied in London, is the only known African-American commissioned fresco artist in America and is an award-winning Kresge Fine Arts Fellow. He recently received the 2019 Legacy Award in recognition of a lifetime of achievements from the non-profit Michigan Legacy Art Park. Henry Heading works in oil, acrylics and 3-dimensional pieces and is the winner of the 2013 Michigan Great Artist Competition. Richard Bennett creates sculpture and multi-media works exhibited in major cities around the world including a sculpture on Belle Isle. Dennis K. Smith is a Canadian artist internationally known who works in acrylic, oil and print, and was a participant in the Canada - Japan Exchange Print Exhibition. Michael Horner works in oils and mixed media, is a founding member of the Detroit Fine Arts Breakfast Club and is a guide and inspiration to many Detroit artists. Horner along with Judy Bowman who creates bright-colored collages focusing on the environment of a mighty people, were both Regional Finalists in the prestigious Bombay Sapphire Regional competition. John Osler, internationally collected artist, has worked his adult life in advertising and photography and is passionate about the iconic portraits in his celebrated oil paintings. Ijania Cortez is a fast-rising much-sought-after Detroit artist who has an expanding devoted following.Collectively these artists represent the mixture of global reach and the strength and power of local creativity through the international recognition of the Detroit art scene.
