Who’s Dennis K. Smith?
You might know already, but I didn't have a clue.
Dennis is a painter, teacher, and quite simply…one of the most fantastic people I’ve had the pleasure of meeting.
by Tom Lucier FEBRUARY 5, 2009

Trained in fine art, Smith’s paintings are all about stories. His affinity for history, personal and otherwise, is infectious and unavoidable when experiencing his work. Tom Lucier

More about the ArtistLaSalle Artist
Dennis K. Smith was born 1949 in Windsor Ontario, Canada. His distinctive work comes alive through his use of rhythmic brush work and choreographed passages of colour. Yet there is honesty, simplicity and serenity that causes one to stop to take time and respond to the painting and its message.
His pursuit of art as a vocation, took him to a number of schools allowing him to study under some of Essex County's most talented artists; fine artist Sergio De Paoli, Bert Weir and cartoonists and illustrator Bob Monks. Dennis continued his studies at the Ontario College of Arts in Toronto Ontario. He had the privileged to tutored, by renowned portraiture artist and illustrator Carl Owens. He was introduced to the art of relief printing under one of Ontario's master printmaker Elio Del col.
He has exhibited in numerous juried shows, group and solo exhibitions. His first lino prints were chosen to be exhibited in the Canada - Japan Exchange Print Exhibition held at the Chiba Shimin Gallery Image in Japan. In 2010 Four of His Painting from his Music Within Series were selected to be on display in the "From the Soul" exhibition held at the ROM in Toronto Ontario.
Smith instructs workshops and teaches art full at his home studio located in LaSalle and at his Downtown Studio located in Windsor, Ontario. He enjoys encouraging and motivating fellow artists to be true to their vision and honest in their artist expressions and let their works identify who they are. Smith gives credence to the fact that creativity will change that which seemed ordinary and common place, into great works of art.
Dennis is co-founder and president of the Artists of Colour and a past Chair person of the Association of Representative Artists of Windsor.
